Lessons with Elizabeth Smith Curtis:

Currently, my studio is full and I am not accepting new students for the fall 2013 semester. I am happy to refer you to another voice or guitar teacher, or to my husband, Carl Curtis, for piano lessons.

I teach private music lessons in voice, piano, and guitar at my home in mid-town Tulsa. I teach all levels of voice from beginner through advanced studies, and I teach piano and guitar lessons from beginning levels through early advanced studies.

A new student needs to have a 30 minute attention span and have the ability to practice at home.  For the very young student, reading ability is quite helpful. Any voice students younger than 12 years of age need to have a private consultation before they can enter the studio.

All disciplines include music theory as part of the learning process. The lessons are traditional in nature and include exposure to classical, folk, theatrical, and popular music.

A student needs to have a quiet place to practice as well as encouragement from his or her family. I suggest that my students have a special time each day to practice (ex. before breakfast, right after school, before dinner, after dinner, etc.). Good practice habits make good progress possible! Additionally, each student will need certain books, a notebook or binder for assignments, a home instrument on which to practice, and perhaps a music stand. I can show you where to purchase any of these items.

Each May, I have a studio recital at my home. Students are encouraged to participate but are not required to and it is very casual and relaxed. There is no recital fee. When a student is accepted into the studio, I provide a calendar of holidays and my studio policies. If you have any questions about my teaching philosophy, I would be happy to visit with you. Please feel free to email me at Elizabeth@jazzthis.com.
